To Start a Fire

A camp fire is essential when you are out setting up camp in the forrest. The fire brings warmth, light, a way of making food (link til innlegg om mat) and coziness (er det et ord?). Lighting a fire looks easy, but it is not always to easy if it is not done right.

A proper fire requires preparations and patience.

  1. Start by gathering the wood you need for the fire.
  2. Start by piling tinder in the center of where you want your campfire. The tinder are easy to set on fire and you should be able to find some laying around your camp site. If you can’t find any, use your knife to cut of thin pieces of your main logs.
  3. On top of the tinder, place kindlings in a teepee structure.
  4. Place one or two logs on top of your fire. Here you have to be patient and not add too big or too many logs, you don’t want to choke your fire
  5. Light your fire by setting fire to the tinder in the bottom of your campfire.
  6. When you are sure that your wood is burning and that the flames you see is not only the flames from the tinder or kindling, you can add more.
  7. Enjoy yourself!
